Sweet Spring
I wanted to post a few pics I took a few Sundays ago before church. Thanks to my sweet friend Brittany, the kids had precious matching outfits to wear! Unfortunately, getting them together in a picture proved impossible. But, the outfits will be seen again this summer and my camera will be ready!

Happy Birthday, Will!

Today, the whole family helped our best buddy Will celebrate his 2nd birthday. Wow - already 2?! Will is exactly 8 weeks older than the twins (or "CarliJack" as Will likes to say) so that's a sobering thought!
Will's LOVES buses and trucks, so it was appropriate that his birthday was a "school bus party." They even had a city school bus on loan - the kids loved climbing around in it and especially loved sitting all the way in the back of the bus! Kendal said that's where the "cool kids" sit (unfortunately, I was never a back of the bus girl!). All the kids (and parents!) had a great time enjoying pizza, cake and kiddie chaos! We did have a little oopsie before leaving for the party - Jackson Camper had on a jon jon that coordinated with his sister's outfit but... I forgot to put a diaper on him... and he had a little accident. Seriously, who forgets to put a diaper on their kid? Well, I sure do!
Not sure if this is funny or not, but I had to post for the grandparents to enjoy. It didn't take long at all for the twins to find party decorations to fight over - I just wish I'd gotten their faces, they are MAD!

Diva
So it begins. I got home from work today to find Miss Carlisle lounging on the floor, flipping nonchalantly through my new In Style magazine. A few minutes later she was clomping around in my heels. Seriously, I have to start sharing already?!

My mom helped stock the twins' Easter baskets, which they loved tearing through on Sunday morning. The kids enjoyed their first "candy breakfast," which they loved (bad mom, I know). They also enjoyed putting on the bunny ears! We then dressed as quickly as possible and made it to church for Sunday School - a first for us in several months! The kids had a great morning, played well together and showed off their new togs. They are really starting to ham for the camera - hopefully we'll soon get tandem smiles! |

Instead of a traditional Easter lunch, we all took a long nap then had some friends over for a potluck. Lamb, smoked brisket, Greek sweet bread, potato casserole, "Bunny Cake," sweet tea and more! YUM! We had hoped to lead all the kids on an Easter egg hunt (the yard looked fantastic as Kendal spent ALL DAY Saturday mowing and weeding) but it was not meant to be. Thunderstorms all day, blah. We still had a great time with friends and finally got to introduce the twins to their newest friend, 5-week old Alice! Carlisle really took to her and sat right next to her and pointed at her teeny "be-be feet" - it was too precious! She's such the little mama.
She also sported her first set of pigtails that evening!

Sugar Rush!
Well, we can safely say that Jackson and Carli have discovered the wonders of chocolate! It started with a stolen taste of Reece's Bunnies while I was stuffing their Easter eggs for the class party and - 8 pieces each later - we had chocolate addicts on our hands.
The kids had a blast at their Easter party at school! Their beloved teacher, Ms. Nikki, always does an amazing job planning their parties and making each child feel special. The moms arrived early to "hide" the eggs on the playground, then waited for the kids to arrive! We could hear them shrieking as they ran down the hall - the excitement began! Armed with their new Easter buckets, the twins and their buddies hit the playground and collected their eggs. Really, the twins preferred to find an egg with candy and shake it until it opened, then immediately eat the candy. After the hunt, the kids enjoyed sugar-stuffed treats and celebrated classmate Jorja's 2nd birthday with cupcakes. They had a blast... and I was very happy to leave the HYPER kiddos with their teacher for a few more hours :)

Hiking
Finally, we fulfilled a dream Kendal has had since we first found out we were having the twins - we took them hiking in right here in Arkansas! Kendal absolutely loves to be outdoors (hence Jackson's alternate name "Camper" if that's not obvious enough) and thinks Arkansas has some of the very best hiking in the country. This past Saturday, we were finally able to take advantage of the beauty in our backyard with a morning hike!
We met our friends Mary Elizabeth, Conner and Will for the romp in the woods. I was honestly nervous about the kids tramping around, but they did great! They were careful around the trees and roots and absolutely loved throwing rocks into the nearby creek. The highlight was a visit to a waterfall. Kendal took Carlisle to the very top (the rest of us watched and waved) and we enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing spring Saturday! The kids only got a little muddy and wet... But nothing a lunch trip to DJ's Drive-In for friend okra and burgers couldn't fix! Then, home for a nap!
Later that afternoon, the twins enjoyed one of their very first birthday parties! We enjoyed a cookout and played outside until bedtime - perfect day!

Headed South
Yikes, I've been terrible about posting lately! So tired with so much going on, but I'll try to post some catch-up pics...
A few weeks ago, I loaded up the kids and headed south to Hattiesburg, MS, where my parents, sister and grandmother live. I was able to spend a full week with family, a rare treat. The trip down is always long, but I was lucky to break it up with an overnight in Shreveport with the
Lands, then an afternoon visit in Jackson, MS, with two old friends (Emily and Brittany) and their kids. Between the three of us, we have six kids and luckily they got along perfectly! Carlisle loved the girls' toddler beds (good sign!) and they all loved playing outside together, drama free! Brittany brought over a TON of precious smocked clothes for me to borrow (my favorite! Thank you, Britt!) and we also got to celebrate Emily's soon-to-arrive baby boy, Jak. We can't wait to meet him - more kids to add to the parade!
While in Hattiesburg, I also got to visit with another old and treasured friend, Lea. She lives in NYC and has a beautiful daughter, Nora, that we got to play with. Jackson slept through the visit, but Carlisle and I had a great time in the "yellow house" (Lea's childhood home). Such a gift to spend time with old friends - and to know they are still in my life today!
The rest of the week was good. My parents let me catch up sleep (another rare treat!) and took early morning duty with the kiddos. My sister, Anna, and her boyfriend Matt came over a lot - the twins loved them! I also got to do a little shopping with Anna, which is always a bonus (she has the best taste!). We all played outside a ton with the kids and made several trips to see my
grandmother, Mama Diket, who will turn 97 this year. She would just hate me if she knew I posted a photo of her online, but I think she is the most beautiful person I know and I'm proud to show her off! I am incredibly close to her and I try to take advantage of every opportunity to spend quality time with her. She was full of old stories during my visits and we had a wonderful time laughing about the past and dreaming about the future. My uncle Edward also made a trip over and played on the floor with the kids - they loved him and let him take them outside for a little "hike." Such a blessing to have time with family and to give Jackson and Carlisle sweet memories with these beloved people.
In short... Lots of meals out, our first visit to Chuck. E. Cheese, first sushi roll (Jackson) parks and playgrounds and - my favorite - a trip to the zoo! My mom and dad took us to visit Kamper Park Zoo and the twins had a blast! They were able to get fairly close to the animals (a little too close, as I experienced firsthand when the jaguar sprayed me in the face!) and they loved letting my dad point out everything to them. Jackson especially loved the train ride - the "conductor" let him ring the bell and we got to take a trip around the zoo while he (Jackson) yelled "Choo Choo!" and pointed out all the sights. What a wonderful week! We DID miss Kendal terribly and the kids finally learned how to say "Da-Da!" when they got back home :)
